Vaibhav Suryavanshi Skips Class 10 Board Exams to Focus on Cricket Career

Hyderabad, February 17, 2026 – India’s 14-year-old cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi was marked absent from his CBSE Class 10 board examination today, as confirmed by the school principal. The young prodigy from Bihar, who has taken the cricketing world by storm with his explosive performances, chose to focus on his packed schedule rather than appear for the exams.

The CBSE Class 10 board exams began today (February 17) and will continue until March 11. Vaibhav, enrolled at Modesty School in Tajpur, Bihar, had his exam form submitted, admit card issued, and was assigned an exam centre at Poddar International School. However, he did not show up for the first paper.

Principal NK Sinha of Poddar International School stated: “Vaibhav Suryavanshi aaj absent hain. Woh exam centre par nahi aaye. CBSE ki policy ke mutabik humne unhe absent mark kar diya hai. We were expecting him to come, but there are many other obligations. There could be a cricket match or a practice.”

This development aligns with earlier reports that Vaibhav would skip the boards due to his intense cricket commitments. His constant travel for training camps, domestic tournaments, and preparations following his stellar U-19 World Cup performance left little room for exam preparation.

Vaibhav recently shone brightly in the Under-19 World Cup, smashing a record-breaking 175 in the final against England, hitting 30 sixes in the tournament, and earning praise as one of India’s brightest young talents. He has already made history as the youngest to score a List A century and has been part of the IPL setup with Rajasthan Royals.

His coach, Manish Ojha, confirmed that Vaibhav is currently in Nagpur, joining the Rajasthan Royals’ pre-season camp ahead of IPL 2026. The decision to prioritize cricket over academics this year reflects the demands on young athletes balancing education and a professional career.

Sources close to the family and Bihar Cricket Association indicate that constant absences from school due to cricket tours affected his readiness for the boards. Discussions between the school, his father Sanjeev Suryavanshi, and cricket stakeholders led to the final call to defer the exams.

While some earlier reports suggested he might appear, the reality on exam day was clear: cricket takes precedence. Vaibhav is expected to attempt the Class 10 exams next year, once his schedule allows better preparation.

The “Sooryavanshi Storm” continues to build momentum in domestic and franchise cricket. With the ICC age rule barring him from senior international debut until he turns 15 later this year, his focus remains on honing skills at the highest levels possible.

This choice highlights the tough decisions young sporting talents in India often face—passion for the game versus traditional academic milestones.
