RCB Creates History: First Team with Both IPL & WPL Titles

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has scripted history in Indian franchise cricket by becoming the first team ever to hold both the IPL and WPL trophies simultaneously.
This monumental achievement was sealed when RCB’s women’s team lifted the WPL 2026 title on February 5, 2026, defeating Delhi Capitals in a high-octane final. The men’s team had already ended their 18-year wait by clinching the IPL 2025 crown, making RCB the undisputed king of T20 cricket in India right now.
RCB’s Path to the Historic Double
- IPL 2025 Breakthrough: Under captain Rajat Patidar, RCB finally conquered the IPL after years of heartbreak. In the final at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, they posted 190/9 and defended it to beat Punjab Kings by 6 runs. Virat Kohli’s consistent performances throughout the season played a key role in this emotional triumph, turning “Ee Sala Cup Namde” from a chant into reality.
- WPL Dominance Continues: RCB Women had claimed their maiden WPL title in 2024 by beating Delhi Capitals. After Mumbai Indians won in 2025, RCB bounced back stronger in 2026, dominating the league stage with an unbeaten run at points and securing a direct finals spot.
WPL 2026 Final: Record-Breaking Chase in Vadodara
The final at Kotambi Stadium (BCA Stadium), Vadodara, was a thriller for the ages. Delhi Capitals batted first and posted a formidable 203/4—the highest total in a WPL final—powered by Jemimah Rodrigues’ 57, Laura Wolvaardt’s 44, and contributions from Tahlia McGrath and others.
Chasing 204—the highest successful chase in WPL history—RCB’s chase was masterclass stuff. Captain Smriti Mandhana blazed away with a match-winning 87 off 41 balls (highest individual score in a WPL final/playoff), while Georgia Voll smashed 79 off 54. Their epic 165-run partnership for the second wicket (highest in WPL history and in any women’s T20 final) turned the game decisively.
RCB reached the target in 19.4 overs, winning by 6 wickets with balls to spare. This victory marked RCB’s second WPL title (joint-most with Mumbai Indians) and handed Delhi Capitals their fourth straight final defeat (lost to MI in 2023 & 2025, and RCB in 2024 & 2026).
Why This Double Matters
RCB is now the only franchise to simultaneously hold the IPL (2025) and WPL (2026) trophies—the pinnacle of men’s and women’s premier T20 leagues in India. With three titles in three years (WPL 2024, IPL 2025, WPL 2026), the Bengaluru-based side has shed its “chokers” tag and entered a golden era.
Virat Kohli celebrated the win with a heartfelt message: “Champions again
️
️. Keeping the RCB flag flying high… To Smriti and the whole squad… big congratulations.”
Fans across India, especially in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, are buzzing with pride. From memes to glory—this is the RCB story fans always dreamed of.
Ee Sala Cup Namde… and the next one too!
