India Sweeps Men's 50m Rifle 3P at Asian Championships 2026; Tomar Sets World Record

Indian shooters delivered a historic performance at the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championships 2026, held at the iconic Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi from February 2-14. In a display of dominance, India achieved a complete podium sweep in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event, highlighted by Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar setting a new world record to claim gold.

The 25-year-old two-time Olympian and defending Asian champion Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar produced a flawless final, finishing with an astonishing score of 362.0 — eclipsing the previous world record and securing his second consecutive Asian title in the event. The dramatic climax came on the 35th and final shot: entering the shot with Niraj Kumar holding a slim 0.2-point lead, Kumar fired a solid 10.3. Tomar responded with nerves of steel, drilling a 10.7 to leap ahead and clinch victory by the narrowest of margins.

Niraj Kumar, who topped qualification with an impressive 593, took silver with 361.8 — marking his first individual international medal in a strong showing. Akhil Sheoran rounded out the Indian sweep with bronze at 343.5, showcasing consistency throughout the competition.

The trio’s combined qualification efforts also delivered team gold for India, underscoring the depth and strength of the Indian rifle program.

Adding to the celebrations, young talent Adriyan Karmakar shone brightly in the junior category. The emerging shooter captured gold in the junior men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final with a score of 353.2, which set a new world record in the junior division. This marked another standout achievement for India’s junior pipeline at the championships.

The event, organized under the Asian Shooting Confederation and ISSF rules, featured intense competition across rifle and pistol disciplines. India’s performance in the men’s 50m rifle 3P — an Olympic event — sends a powerful message ahead of future global competitions, including the Olympics.

This clean sweep and record-breaking feats highlight India’s growing supremacy in shooting sports on the continental stage, with home advantage at the Karni Singh Range playing a key role in the inspirational displays.
