HUGE: Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains Touch 180 kmph – Not a Single Drop of Water Spills from Glasses!
New Delhi, December 31, 2025 – In a spectacular display of engineering prowess, India’s indigenous Vande Bharat Sleeper train has successfully touched its maximum design speed of 180 kmph during high-speed trials, with a viral “water test” proving its exceptional stability and ride comfort.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a captivating video on social media showcasing the trial conducted under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) on the Kota-Nagda section in Rajasthan. The highlight? Glasses filled to the brim with water – even stacked on top of each other – remained perfectly steady, without spilling a single drop, as the train roared at 180 kmph.
“Our own water test demonstrated the technological features of this new generation train,” Vaishnaw posted, emphasizing the train’s advanced suspension and minimal vibrations.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper, a long-distance overnight variant of the popular Vande Bharat Express, is designed for operational speeds up to 160 kmph but was tested at 180 kmph to ensure safety margins. Manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), the prototypes feature fully air-conditioned coaches, including AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier berths, with modern amenities like automatic doors, onboard WiFi, and enhanced safety systems such as the indigenous KAVACH anti-collision technology.
This milestone brings the train closer to commercial launch, promising to revolutionize long-haul travel on routes like Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Patna, and beyond. Indian Railways plans to induct over 200 such sleeper trains in the coming years, drastically reducing travel times and elevating passenger comfort.
With this achievement, India continues its push towards self-reliant, world-class rail infrastructure under the Make in India initiative.
