Google to Build $15B AI Hub in Visakhapatnam

Google to Build $15B AI Hub in Visakhapatnam

In a major boost to Atmanirbhar Bharat and Andhra Pradesh’s growth story, Google partners with Adani to set up 1 GW hyperscale data centre cluster in Vizag

New Delhi/Visakhapatnam, April 2026 – Tech giant Google is all set to formally kick off construction of its ambitious $15 billion Artificial Intelligence data centre hub in Visakhapatnam, marking one of the largest foreign investments in India’s digital infrastructure history.

The project, being developed in partnership with Adani Infra (India) Limited through Google’s subsidiary Raiden Infotech India Pvt Ltd, will transform Visakhapatnam into a premier AI and hyperscale computing destination in the country.

Land Allotment Finalized: 601.4 Acres Across Three Strategic Sites

The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the allotment of 601.4 acres of prime land for this landmark project. The land has been distributed across three key locations through dedicated Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) managed by Adani Infra:

  • 160 acres at Adavivaram and Mudasarlova – allotted to Vizag Hyperscale Data Centre Park Ltd
  • 266.6 acres at Tarluvada – allotted to Vizag Mega Data Centre Park Ltd
  • 174.8 acres at Rambilli – allotted to Vizag Rambilli Data Centre Park Ltd

These three hyperscale data centres will together deliver a massive 1 GW (1000 MW) of computing capacity, with the entire project targeted for commissioning by July 2028.

A Historic Investment for India’s AI Ambitions

Announced in October 2025, this $15 billion investment is Google’s single-largest commitment in India and its first dedicated AI infrastructure hub in the country. The project is designed not just as traditional data storage but as a full-fledged AI ecosystem that includes:

  • Gigawatt-scale high-performance computing infrastructure
  • International subsea cable landing stations for ultra-fast global connectivity
  • Integration of clean and renewable energy sources
  • Advanced fiber-optic backbone and telecom infrastructure

This development perfectly aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of positioning India as a global leader in Artificial Intelligence and digital sovereignty.

Strong Public-Private Partnership

Google is collaborating with the Adani Group for data centre development and physical infrastructure, while Bharti Airtel is a key partner for subsea cable connectivity. The proactive support from the Andhra Pradesh government under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has played a crucial role in fast-tracking land allocation and clearances.

The project is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities in construction, operations, AI skills development, and allied sectors, giving a significant boost to the local economy of Visakhapatnam and surrounding regions.

Strategic Importance of Visakhapatnam

Located on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, Visakhapatnam offers ideal conditions for a large-scale data centre and digital hub with its excellent port facilities, improving road and rail connectivity, and proximity to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport. The city is steadily emerging as Andhra Pradesh’s economic powerhouse and a preferred destination for mega investments.

What This Means for Bharat

This Google-Adani AI data centre project is more than just an infrastructure initiative. It represents:

  • A giant leap towards building world-class digital infrastructure in India
  • Enhanced capacity to handle exploding demand for AI computing
  • Strengthened data sovereignty and secure computing environment for Indian users and enterprises
  • Massive economic multiplier effect for Andhra Pradesh and the entire eastern region

As India races towards becoming a $5 trillion economy and a global AI superpower, projects like the Visakhapatnam AI hub will play a pivotal role in realizing that dream.
