Chaudhary Charan Singh Jayanti: Farmers’ Day 2025

National Farmers’ Day 2025: Honouring Annadatas on Chaudhary Charan Singh’s Birth Anniversary
New Delhi, December 23, 2025 – Today, the nation celebrates National Farmers’ Day (Kisan Diwas), a day dedicated to saluting the tireless efforts, sacrifices, and invaluable contributions of India’s millions of farmers – our true annadatas who feed the country. This day also commemorates the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and legendary farmers’ leader Bharat Ratna Chaudhary Charan Singh, who devoted his entire life to the cause of rural India and farmers’ rights.
Observed annually on December 23, National Farmers’ Day was officially recognised in 2001. Chaudhary Charan Singh was born on this day in 1902 into a humble farmer’s family in Uttar Pradesh. He served as India’s fifth Prime Minister from 1979 to 1980 and remained a powerful voice for farmers throughout his career. Fondly called the “Messiah of Farmers”, he was conferred the Bharat Ratna posthumously earlier this year in March.
Chaudhary Charan Singh: The True Champion of Farmers
A freedom fighter, astute politician, and pioneering agricultural reformer, Chaudhary Charan Singh championed land reforms, debt relief for farmers, and overall rural development. His vision and principles continue to guide policymakers even today. He once said: “The nation cannot progress until the condition of farmers improves.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute today on X: “Humble tribute to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Chaudhary Charan Singh ji on his birth anniversary. The grateful nation will never forget his immense contribution to nation-building as a true champion of the poor and farmers.”
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also extended greetings: “Millions of salutes to the Messiah of Farmers, former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Chaudhary Charan Singh ji on his birth anniversary. Heartfelt wishes to all farmer brothers and sisters on National Farmers’ Day!”
Why National Farmers’ Day Matters
Farmers form the backbone of India’s economy and ensure our food security. This day serves as a reminder of their unwavering commitment despite challenges like climate change, rising input costs, and market volatility. It is also an occasion to highlight government initiatives such as PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi, crop insurance schemes, and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).
Though no official theme has been announced for 2025, the spirit of last year’s theme – “Empowering Annadatas for a Prosperous Nation” – remains strong. Experts predict greater emphasis this year on sustainable farming practices, technology adoption, and strengthening FPOs.
Celebrations Across India
- Schools and colleges are organising essay competitions, poster-making events, and programmes to honour farmers.
- Rural areas are hosting farmer fairs, seminars, and workshops.
- Agricultural institutions are conducting discussions on sustainable agriculture.
- States like Uttar Pradesh are witnessing farmer rallies and policy debates.
This day is more than just celebration – it is a moment to reflect on farmers’ challenges and work towards meaningful solutions.
The BharatTone.com team extends heartfelt greetings to all annadatas on National Farmers’ Day. Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan! Millions of salutes to Chaudhary Charan Singh ji.
