Important: As of April 2026, NRIs (Indian citizens abroad) must be physically present in India on polling day to cast their vote in person. Remote/postal voting for NRIs is not yet available for these state elections.
Step-by-Step Process:
- Confirm Eligibility
- You must be an Indian citizen (holding valid Indian passport).
- Age 18+ as on 1st January of the relevant year.
- Your Indian passport should mention an address in Tamil Nadu or West Bengal.
- Register as Overseas Elector
- Fill Form 6A online at the National Voters’ Service Portal: voterportal.eci.gov.in
- Upload scanned copies of:
- Your valid Indian Passport (first & last pages + address page)
- Recent passport-size photograph
- Submit to the Electoral Registration Officer of your constituency.
- Verify & Prepare
- Check your name in the electoral roll on eci.gov.in
- Plan your travel well in advance to reach your constituency on polling day.
- Carry your original Indian Passport as identity proof at the polling booth.
